    James "Jonas" Sprague was the youngest son of Capt. James Sprague (1833-1910) who was in the U.S. Life Saving Service and also carved decoys.

    James, Jr. worked as a fisherman, a house painter, and decoy carver despite the loss of both his thumbs.
